I love how this picked right up from the last episode! I actually had a really interesting conversation with one of my gay male friends about appropriation. He shared with me that he feels the exact same way about heterosexuals appropriating gay culture to their convenience. I had my “huh?” face on and he went on to explain to me that many of the popular phrases or words that we use in the heterosexual black community actually started in the gay community (“slay” in particular). I don’t know how true this is but when I gave it some thought, it did seem more than probable. If this is true, what are your thoughts about appropriation in THIS form?

I don’t think I’ve ever said the word slay. But, I can see where mainstream pop culture maybe takes from their culture. But I wouldn’t know because I don’t keep up with much outside of sports and transit. Everything outside of my little bubble I find about in a round about way, like Twitter for example. But I can see that happening. Everyone is stealing from everyone in an attempt to be significant. It’s the wild wild west for attention these days

So true. Ironically we’re becoming less significant as individuals in the process lol. And I’m glad that you’ve never said the word slay lmao – let’s make sure you never do lolololol.
